Marsa Alam used to be a small fishing village and is located in Southern Egypt. The touristic sector in this area is only slightly developed which can be clearly felt. The events during the revolution were hardly noticeable here. The hotel “The Oasis” and the diving centre are a joint venture of Diving Centers Werner Lau and Sinai Divers.

Marsa Shagra House Reef. Marsa Shagara is a bay with an easy sand bottom entrance that leads to South or North reef dives. The depth starts at 1m and drops to 40m + outside the bay. It is one of the most pristine house reef dives in the south. This dive is great for entry level and experienced divers. Learn more.
Marsa Alam is an insignificant small town with no tourist infrastructure whatsoever ! Port Ghalib has a nice sea front promenade with a couple of restaurants/bars and coffee shops. There are plenty of souvenir shops in the back street.
Ten years ago there were just seven known dugongs reside along the entire 100km coastline between Marsa Alam and El Quseir while studies in 2017 and 2019 identified 30 individuals at 22 sites “with a male-female ratio of 7:1” (The Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Research).
